The

Cromford and High Peak Railway

was an early, innovative standard-gauge railway line that operated in Derbyshire, England, from 1831 until its closure in 1967. Much of the former track bed has now been converted into the popular High Peak Trail for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders.

Friden

is a hamlet in the Peak District National Park, located approximately 11 miles southeast ofBuxton. It is historically significant as a key operational point on the formerCromford and High Peak Railway(C&HPR) and remains home to a rare surviving industrial site in the area.

Historical Railway Significance

Friden Railway Station: Opened in the 19th century, this station served the local community and industry. While the station closed in 1967, the former stationmaster’s house remains as a Grade II listed building.
Operational Hub: Friden functioned as an interchange yard for the C&HPR, managing mineral and quarry traffic between the Parsley Hay (Buxton) and Middleton ends of the line.
